The exotic Zanzibar archipelago lies 25km off the east coast of Tanzania and includes Unguja, Pemba and an arrangement of small, tropical island sanctuaries.
The northern and eastern coasts of Unguja including beautiful and timeless beaches boast many excellent resorts, which makes Zanzibar a perfect place to conclude an East African safari. Unguja Island is a short flight from Dar es Salaam.
Zanzibar’s climate is quite similar to that of mainland Tanzania, with the best time to visit in June to October, when skies are clear and the weather is dry. Underwater visibility is also at its zenith during these months. From March to May, you can expect tropical storms almost daily, while in November and December, there is potentially also some rainfall.
Arab and Persian traders arrived here during the 8th century, growing and developing Zanzibar into an important port on the spice, ivory and slave trading routes by the 17th century,. Governed over the centuries by various sultans, the Portuguese and later, the Sultanate of Oman, Zanzibar became a British Protectorate in the late 19th century.
Famous European explorers like Livingstone visited before launching their explorations into the “interior”. Ancient Stone Town on Unguja Island is a labyrinth of narrow streets, coral stone dwellings, mosques and markets. You can visit the Sultan’s Palace, the Arab Fort, the Old Dispensary and the Livingstone house.

Kilindi achieves the perfect marriage between Scandinavian minimalism and the dramatic architectural overtones of Middle Eastern heritage, whilst encouraging an open, 'back-to-nature' ambience throughout.
